On March 14, 2024, Korean Air held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new engine maintenance plant for Korean Air. The new engine maintenance plant for Korean Air to be built in Yeongjong International City is expected to be completed by 2027, with a size of about 100,000 square meters, which is the size of 14 soccer fields (7,140 square meters), and can produce and maintain 300 units per year. The aviation maintenance industry (MRO), which means repair, maintenance, and renovation of aircraft, is a high value-added industry that is both labor-intensive and has a great effect of creating jobs that require skilled manpower. In particular, the engine maintenance sector accounts for 45.8% of the total aviation MRO market, with high growth potential that is expected to grow at an annual rate of 4.0% by 2033.
